maria hjorth
Aida, Turandot, La Traviata, Carmen and Don Carlos are some of the operas that Maria has been acting in. The step from baroque to folk and medieval music is not far. They have all much in common in the musical language. A touch of folk music is still a clear colour in Marias singing that gives her voice a strong character.

She was a member in the vocal trio "Envisa", three voices singing Swedish folk music and is one of three voices in "Gemma", a medival vocal trio.

Maria has given lots of concerts singing Duke Ellingtons "Sacred Concerts", with a trio or as an soloist with choirs and big bands, having workshops with choirs before the concerts.

During her studies in London, she met the jazzpianist and composer Simon Wallace who at that time wrote music to lyrics by Fran Landesman. Back in Sweden she recorded them in two radio programs.

Maria sings music of Gerswhin together with a trio: Magnus Lindén (pi), Inge Petersson (sax) and Mattias Hjorth (doublebass). The Duo "Ad Lib" together with Mattias Hjorth also performs frequently , making improvisations and versions of songs on Voice & Doublebass.

These colours in voice and music have developed during the years in different periods of life.
